THE BIOGRAPHY

Born September 21st in Liberal, Kansas the first child of three to Margaret Witherspoon, Dexter T. Brewer has been no stranger to musical affairs.  While his father Robert Johnson and his uncle Tommy Johnson had been a traveling group of musicains representing themselves as a local  gospel ensemble Dexter had continued to observe in awe.   Meanwhile  with Dexters' mother lagging in tow with her children on her arm (sibling sister Roslyn)  she became an active participant in the churchs' music community.  As her duties were left in raising her children the best way she'd know how,  Margaret felt she did so by keeping the children active in the church, youth choirs and musical productions which would pertain to religion - to better serve out a purpose and to keep them well-grounded.  Though It didn't take Dexter long to follow in that the footsteps and inspirings of his father, he became a figure in his local churchs music community sometimes acting as a choir conductor, lead vocalist and an avid participant in numerous music collaborations involving other local churches and/or relatives involved in weekly devotion.  In this respect - involved with music going ons' Dexter  surrounded himself, his desires and thoughts with musicians, singers, and entertainers.

Though through his childhood he would surface from a broken home, and  a whirlwind of  life altering tribulations, though he found much solice in writing.  "I just had to write, whatever it was" he says. " A majority of my earlier years consisted of being verbally and physically abused, made to feel inadequate,  and ostracized for feeling and being different.", "I was literally left feeling of no self worth. Tre Main says, "So as my writing became my bitter sweet escape, it also became well my own private revenge..  It was something I knew I had to keep most people   around me at arms length" he finishes.:

Inevitably Dexter would soon be  torn from the  homelife in which he'd known and tiredly placed in and out numerous government housing programs and foster homes for runaway adolescents.    Yet, there was this on - going passion for constant scribbling which always followed within him and had frequently initiated a new found passion in creating poetry and song also giving confirmation to where his heart really lie.  As he's always felt he's gotten great satisfaction out of both writing and composing  music the feeling has been that of passionate and strategic proportions.   "one compliments the other", he states. "It's cool getting to piece together a thought, accompanying it with all the music, sounds and tweeks - and then  getting to write about how and what these sounds make you feel.  it's amazing how the slightest sound can bring out a feeling in you which will then trigger your memory bank and before you know it...you're spilling your guts.  I beleve in singing about what you hear, yet what you know.  Who'd ever think they'd be narrating their own life through a song, and have other people whom can actually relate to you sing about your life along with you.  It's kinda creepy! but greatly gratifying." he concludes.

At hand maintaining a journal with his most secret of confession and heartache led him to begin writing poetry, which soon becamse a past time for Dexter. His love for poems eventually evolved into basic lyrical writing.  He says " At a younger age I wrote about corny stuff,  as that's what you do as a kid.  though the more I'd write, evaluate then evolve, the better it became.  I must have had over 50 songs written by age 10".  There were ultimately over 100 songs in which were written by Dexter as a teen though none fully developed.   The best thing he could do was to keep on practicing...and that he did.

As frequently reminiscing on his younger days and being active in singing and performing, his desire grew immensely.  He would partake in various local talent shows, musical choir events and he also strived in taking piano, guitar and drum lessons. Though piano lessons and drum lessons at an earlier age didn't seem to peek his interest as much as being behind the microphone,  Dexter would suddenly seek out various odd ball ways in capturing a moment in his craft, and in any way possible.   He would continue singing at various events and gatherings throughout school, church and other public portals in an attempt to become more comfortable and confident in what it was he had planned to do when he grew up.

In approaching his early adult hood,  and in the realization of Dexters' yearnings he started taking his love for music seriously.  while still no immediate access in  a way to record his music, every idea was captured with a hand held recorder.  he'd eventually come in contact with numerous local up and coming music artist(s) and producers whom were still utilizing sessions of the basement and/or  closets of their homes.   As none of these collaborations artistically came to blossom or were in conclusion the style in which Dexter was wishing to portray, he'd continue the grind in building a visualized artist persona.

.  "when collaborating with these individuals I felt molded, and that i had to be  on the style in which the producer or director wanted" he mentions.  To pursue even the tiniest bit of his dream Dexter went along with the direction being given in  a chance of being heard and/or seen.  As though nothing came of these music rendevous, he was determined  to keep up the fight..

While working dead end 9 to 5 jobs - music continued to inspire Dexters' movement,  therefore he soon began putting in overtime and extra work efforts knowing that this would  supplement him not only financially but emotionally in what it was he had needed to be doing.  He began purchasing instruments; keyboards, drum machines, synthesizers and some computer programming software and began what would numerous songs later become Tre Main.       With a balance in both having creative artistic fun and taking his frustrations out, he began gnerating some top heavy hooks, along with one of many "off beat" synopsis', and some infectious beats.  "Yea, anyone can do it,  though it's got to be real!" he says. Anyone can kick a beat and attempt to sing and/or rap behind it.  but what are you singing about?  this interests me because i have to ask myself these questions when i'm listening around at other artist(s)."

In the meantime in his personal life, Dexter would continue his own inner war while also building up his own courage in turning his head to random acceptance and the pressures of how to be and/or become a straight black male in america. "stereotypes are not for me, as labels are not for me, though we've all played them and played on them" he says.  "we're all whom we are in our own right, amongst our own god, in our own hearts and out there on display." " i choose to live for me, not for standards". he finishes.    As battling his own sexual identity  had been a struggle  for him over the course of the years to come he's felt that "you'll take yourself where you want to go. "noone else should have anything to say about it".

While currently still a full time employee on the daily grind, he remains a serious and committed  singer/songwriter, and artist as  he continues to compose, and vocalize on the majority of his tracks.  "It's important to get yourself out there, it's important for people to know you as timing is crucial". "like i always say, I don't have to be big.....but I have to be something."

Inspired in earlier years by R & B , Disco and Dance genres Dexter became enriched with such priceless acts as Marvin Gaye, Sylvester, Prince, Phil Collins and Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, later exposed to new wave groups such as The Cure, The Police, Culture Club, Duran Duran and The Eurythmics, his love for music strecthed the globe - noticeably with focus on eye-popping, gender bending colorful personas .   Still today this artist appreciates the diversity of music while still listening to favorites ranging from Chaka Khan, George Michael, and Depeche Mode to some of todays finest: Seal, Maxwell, The Killers and Gwen Stefani.  Let us not forget some of musics top reigning as taking music to new levels and pushing envelopes the likes of Boy George, Madonna, Janet Jackson and Lenny Kravitz.

And while continuing to expose the world to his music, he continues the growth as an artist.  Stay tuned as this artist continues to pave the way,  and strive for Indenpendant Honor and Order.

THE MUSIC

The Track "In Frame Of Mind" best describes his essence in 5 minutes, this songwriter self proclaims the conditioning and course of his life.  "I'm not an artist whom wants to come off as being angry through my music, though I have alot on my chest in which needs to be sang about" he states.

Though he's loved and been loved in relationships of various multitudes - his proclamation has never been that of "whiny" love songs. "relationships regarding individuals can be represented in alternative ways without "sappy" breakdowns of emotion"., he states, which may further explain why he doesn't offer many ballads in his music.   And as far as any conclusion regarding Tre Mains' own sexuality, it is something in which is expressed through his music.

"I don't care for labels" says Tre Main. "Therefore I prefer for people to listen and draw their own conclusions. "Though it's all quite obvious" lastly stating.
